So a little background. If you don't know, my code.org account got deleted after 2 years and I decided to run an auto-report script as revenge. I felt like it was justified at first because, you know, two years of hard work gone. I felt like it was justified because the rule was added on December 16th and I had stopped operating chat apps by then.
I also felt like it was justified because they fixed the report system.
It wasn't.
It turns out they contacted my school (since my account had my school email) and told them that I had "took malicious actions" against them and disrupting "thousands of students". It makes sense, since I was abusing an API call to render the public projects page unusable.
I was called down to the office today, and had a surprisingly nice conversation with them. I'm very grateful that code.org decided to not press charges (which they are well within their right to do so).
However, they did say that they have given me "several warnings" before deleting my account.
I can count the number of times they've actually contacted me on one hand, and it feels like only two of them are actual human responses and not just a copypaste (the first one being a request to add Nookipedia to startWebRequest, and the second being the response to Dots being banned). The other three times definitely feel like they're just being copied and pasted from a template.
They also mentioned the "resignation" and "the truth" forum posts, which with the first one, I posted on both here and their forum (the one on their forum got deleted), and with "the truth", I only posted that here (I fail to see how it's relevant since it's just me owning up to making up Brendan).
I'm honestly a little surprised that my punishment isn't as harsh as it could be. Instead of being fined $15k and/or being sentenced to 10 years in prison, I instead have to serve three detention services, attend some one-on-one counseling, and not attend the upcoming robotics competition.
In conclusion: don't hack CDO. It's not worth it.
