  • Your Code.org Account's Email Isn't Encrypted

Remember when I cleared the projects page and subsequently got in trouble at school? Code.org was able to identify me and what school I go to through my username (firstname_lastname707) and email (my school email).

This Code.org Support article states that student email addresses are encrypted and non-retrievable. However, why would they be able to find my school if they couldn't get my email address?

If your account's email has personally identifying information, I strongly suggest you create a new account and move your projects there. Considering how insecure code.org's systems already are, I wouldn't be surprised if someone hacks them and leaks the personal information of over 10 million students.

[WUT] Adam well ain't that something. Well code.org has hackers now, huh? No shot in the dark. It's just a learning to code site. Why would they need all of that extra stuff. Sum aint right

bruh my school screwed me over all my school info is linked to that account, dont even mention my old account.

[WUT] Adam depends on how there claiming to encrypt emails, I'm not a proficient in cybersecurity but there are a quite a few ways of encrypting data I'll assume they probably used hashing, instead of salting or 2 way encryption as that is much more intricate to do, on top of that you'd need to see if that database is private or public that stores account info, even if you do find it you may not be able to retrieve anything from it depending on how it was implemented. however if they are stored in plaintext do you have proof to back it up? based on what @ackvonhuelio said the key or hashing method used could be known by the main contributors that keep the site running and found your account with your info easily, this could also be stated in their TOS somewhere and they were completely in the right to pursue someone who was preventing their site from the way it should be functioning

Varrience Yup, that and also code.org has other sites where they can access your email, such as on the forums, or if Adam made a teacher account instead of a student account.

-wyi need to remix it so I can make a game based off of it's code.

Letti42 Yeah I had a teacher account. That makes a lot more sense
